It's been a while.

Here we go. I finally have something worth posting again. Over at 68cal they have a tutorial about dying your hopper shell. Something I've done for myself and others. I wish I had this article before.

I’ve been compiling some good links for the sidebar over there. The online paintball scene is good if you’re interested in the basics. The up to the minute news sites mostly cover lame press releases, which I’m trying to stay away from. Rumors are for fanboys so there out. Mostly I’m looking for game footage and other video.

We unearthed tape that hadn't made it into a show in the 2000 season, so now it's a PigTV retro episode of the 2000 Nashville open 10 man tournament. Check out the old-school pro paintball action.

The latest big break is the soon to be released Greg Hastings Tournament Paintball.

I like forceofnature’s write up. Flagpull and paintball.com have similar coverage. I couldn’t find anything on a mainstream gaming site so that shows you what they think about it. Anyway I did find this interesting. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War

Only try the game if you’re into real time strategy games. I’ve got a friend who is hooked on it.

Are you thinking of creating your own online paintball store. Make sure you can accept credit cards. You have to be able to accept credit cards to sell online. I’m mentioning this because I tried to buy a halo yesterday, and the seller made it very difficult. All I’m saying is have a merchant account so you can accept credit cards online. It’s not that hard.

I’m so glad we get to see this. Now we all understand how paintball should present it’s self to the general public. Take away all the edge that makes this sport so enthralling and add a splash of campy ness.

If that wasn’t bad enough news, then let’s beat on smart parts a little more.

I admit I like smart parts and there product’s, but this lawsuit business is ugly and unnecessary. Maybe we can take our rivalries back to the field, where it’s fun.

Why do I care about all this fighting between Dragun Empire or ogi or odyssey or who ever they are? I haven’t ordered a Halo to feed my e-blade yet.

I know I’m a little behind the times, but these day’s a revy is a great way to conserve paint durng rec play. Sounds strange I know. With a revy I can pull just under ten balls per second. With a halo I can easily double that with no worries about breaks. Maybe it’s time to consider other loader options.

One small step for fan boys, one giant leap for Paintball. With the assistance of some high powered sponsorships, and I would assume some business savy Dynasty has become the number one team among the masses. I’m referring to this article on paintballstar.com.

Face Full issue 21. Good stuff as always. I like the two sentences about certain team’s guns. In my opinion the cheater guns deserve a full write up, starting with the history of reactive triggers and programmable boards. Of course these problems have existed for years. Finally people are talking about it. I hope this era comes to an end. I might feel differently if I could pick up a team gun with the secret cheater modes for myself? Bad to say, but I have to admit it.

The mask decision has been made. The pro flex is a better price, and JT has been in the mask business for ever. This mask has had years of pro input and development behind it starting with the spectra 260. Most importantly I think it looks cool.

Starting first thing next week, I’m going to read a different “how to play better” online article and apply it to my game play. I don’t know if it will produce any improvement, but I like reading how to articles, and I want to write about them on my site. I will be checking the usual paintball resources; Paintball.com P8ntball.com paintballstar.com. If you know of any particularly good articles, I’m interested.

Now some people are going insane about all the new lawsuits in paintball. Even going so far as to call some people Nazi’s. It looks like they might not be far off.

I like the steel or the smoke

This is a hilarious quote from one of the reviews. Although I do feel bad for the kid.

My group of about 20 took a few more buildings and were nearing town center. Well, I popped up to see if a small group of others had taken another hut, seeing through a window in that building, that there were two guys waiting on either side of the door. I yelled out to the group, and from out of nowhere, I took one clean in the mouth, straight through the Vents. That was my most horrible paintball experience. It ruined the whole Scenario Game for me. I had to get a stitch on my bottom lip. Another time Speed balling, I was laying down at a Taco Bunker, and a guy came right around a corner and bunkered me, RIGHT IN THE NECK, from 3 feet away. Well, those were the two main events that caused me to sell my mask for a Proteus 2, by JT.

I completely buy into this theory that; for every subject, there are really only two things you need to know. The two things page.

What are the two things about paintball?
1. Don’t get eliminated.
2. Eliminate your opponents.

That was a little too easy. The second part of the theory is that everything else is the application of the two things. The hard part is applying the two things better than said opponents.

Amateur Open helps shape tomorrows professionals

This will be my second time attending the Amateur open. It was a great tournament and trade show last time. I’m sure it’ll be interesting this year too. The idea of feeder events for the nppl is very smart. It reminds me of the farm teams in baseball.

Pro Tourney series

I was listening to the new emoney radio show. I get confused with these tournament series, and how and what and whatever. No stability, Everyone in pro paintball is in the business. Which is fine but, these companies are business competitors. The real game being played is who can line their pockets first?

Sometimes the players and teams catch a break. Get a chance to win some money. This news is supposed to be good for everyone. People say the top teams should have never been divided anyway.

The creation of a pro series was cool in my opinion, but like I said it’s probably premature.

This is something I wrote a long time ago, but It still applies now.

3…2…1 Go Go Go ….Screaming down the right tape line. One foot pounding in front of the other, trying not to shake my gun to much. I duck under some hyperball tubing on my way to a center field bunker. Paintballs fly past my left shoulder, at least two dozen coming from Danno’s shocker. Getting close…lower…down to my knees and slide into safety. Back guy raining paint and pointing out other players. What’s the count? Did we get any? Get low, real low and get a look. Lean out. SONOFA…MOTHER…SHIT! Pull my armband. No question, I’m hit. Right in the lenses. Didn’t even shoot a ball. All took about six seconds. I’m out.

You know how it feels to be hit. Not the physical pain; the combination of disappointment and disbelief.

I hate that.

Professional paintball

With paintball in a constant state of flux, how can the so called pro teams develop any real fan base? I guess I’m a fan of the All Americans because I live twenty minutes away from smart parts, and there the local Pennsylvania team, but I always liked to watch Lockout play.

It’s easier to not like a team. Paintball players by nature are type-A loudmouth egomaniacs. When you see one cheat it seals the deal.

I don’t like the idea of sponsors carrying an entire team. It doesn’t work. There are too many expenses, plus a salary for every member of the team. Getting paid to play and making a living as a pro player aren’t even close, unless you own a company.

A reliable circuit for pro teams to compete against each other is going to be the best thing for paintball. But the industry has to stop trying to profit from players at pro events. Just put on a show. Make fans.

I’m not plugged into the network of the powers that be, but as far as I know there isn’t anything like this. Premature maybe. Hopefully the NXL or that possible show on spike tv creates a fan based cash cow for the industry.

New gear

To help jumpstart my trek back into paintball I’ve decided to upgrade some of my tattered, worn down equipment. So the search is on for a new mask, new hopper and possibly new gun.

I’m still using the first mask I ever bought. A scott stocker. This is my fourth set of lenses, and although you can hardly see through them, I’ve used them for the last two years. Not recommended and not safe. Don’t be like me.

I have basically the same 12 volt viewloader I bought when they were first released. I’ve changed every part of it at one time or another, even with all the maintenance it’s only ever worked when it wanted to. I’ve developed a habit of shaking my gun after every stream of shots.

For the next few weeks I’ll see if I can’t get my hands on masks and hoppers to see which ones I like. Expect me to write about it.

Abandon all hope

Across the top of my goggles in bold white letters I have a message for everyone who plays against me. ABANDON ALL HOPE I think the message is clear. Don’t think for a moment that you can win against me. I intend to dominate every game I play in. This bold display of confidence can be a major psychological strike.

Of course I don’t always win. The line is just a sarcastic riff made only in friendly competition. Like Bunker King’s: We Kill Sucker’s slogan.

The point is that those three words lifted from the gates of hell, are the embodiment of my motivation for playing paintball. It’s less a sport to me and more an organized sanctioned excuse to kill other people. Remember at the heart of the sport is war simulation. At the heart of every successful player is a killer. Dress it up, color code it, change the terminology, but when you light someone up you feel that true nature.

I’m not some redneck war gamer. I like the direction paintball is headed. I like most of the new companies; the skate style videos are cool. I’m just remembering the reason I play.

Reasons not to play paintball

Honestly I haven’t played in months. My team hasn’t entered a tournament in two years. I haven’t kept up on the new equipment. I haven’t been to a NPPL event in three years. What’s this Xball I keep reading about? Paintball in general pisses me off.
Why?

My high performance autococker is in a state of permanent brake down.

I have to borrow my team mates frankinshocker mix of loose parts every time I play.

None of my friends play anymore.

My girlfriend needs more quality time.

I’m too fat and slow. The little fast guy’s are taking over the game.

At $70 a case, I can shoot a paycheck worth of paint in one night.

I have a mortgage now.

All my local fields suck. I mean really suck

What is pntbll? It's my weblog about paintball. You see I cleverly removed the vowels.

I’ll try to update it almost daily with news and things about the technology, culture and sport of paintball. Sometimes I’ll rant about bad equipment or insanely expensive prices and you’ll be enraged with me. Sometimes I’ll find good links to paintball related articles and add some insightful commentary and you’ll ignore all that. Mostly I’ll learn as I go along.

I would be surprised if anyone even reads this first post.
